In 2008, Gary had a client whose husband was the owner of a manufacturing company in Johannesburg. Gary received a call from him asking whether Gary would consider having his own haircare range – of course, Gary said YES! Seeing that “beautiful hair is our only condition”, it was the obvious next step to take, to ensure that our client’s hair looked and felt as good at home, as it does when walking out of the salon. The brief was simple – Gary wanted a haircare brand that could compete and potentially be better than the big international brands.
Many hours were spent on careful salon testing; using brands such as Kerastase, Redken, Schwarzkopf and L’Oréal professional as our barometers. Proudly, on the 11th of May 2012, the first haircare products were launched, 4 years after the idea began. Gary Rom Haircare is a proudly South African brand, crafted with the South African climate in mind and with active ingredients, such as the oil of the fruit of the Baobab tree. 35 years of passion, dedication and perseverance have gone into this range. With this in mind, Gary understands that there are some clients that need to be provided with a more affordable option. BSH and JLA were formulated using some of the ingredients that are found in the Gary Rom Haircare range, but certain ingredients have been replaced with more affordable options. Fine fragrances have been substituted with essential oils, making the brand more affordable. BSH and JLA might be more affordable than Gary Rom Haircare, however these products are still performant and efficient.
